What Makes Kashid Beach Different
Kashid Beach sits on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra, tucked between two rocky headlands that shape it into a natural crescent. The sand here is unusually light and fine — a creamy white that is rare on Maharashtra's coastline, where most beaches run dark grey or black. The 3-kilometre stretch is lined by casuarina trees that provide genuine shade, the sea stays cleaner than beaches closer to Mumbai, and the beach rarely feels crowded even on weekends because the shoreline is wide enough to absorb visitors comfortably.
For anyone driving down from Mumbai or Pune, Kashid is also logistically convenient. You pass through Alibaug and Murud on the way, making it easy to combine multiple stops in one trip. Murud Janjira Fort — one of the few sea forts in India that was never conquered — is just 20 km further south and pairs naturally with a Kashid day trip.
The beach has no entry gate and no entry fee. You walk straight onto the sand from the roadside parking area.
Water Sports at Kashid Beach — 2026 Prices
Water sports operators work the northern end of the beach, roughly where the parking and shacks cluster. There is no fixed price board and no government regulator like in Goa, so rates vary by season and by operator. The prices below reflect what visitors actually pay in 2026 — use them as a starting point and bargain if the operator quotes higher.
Activity Approx. price (2026) Notes Jet ski ₹400–₹600 for 2 people 10–15 min ride Banana boat ride ₹150–₹200 per person Group ride, 3–5 people Parasailing ₹1,200–₹1,500 per couple Weather-dependent Bumper boat ₹150–₹200 per person Fun for groups Horse/camel ride ₹100–₹150 per person Along shoreline ATV ride ₹200–₹400 On beach sand Speed boat ₹500–₹800 Short sea excursion
Tip: Walk up to an operator, get a quote, then start walking away. Prices drop. The bargain almost always works at Kashid.
Water sports are available roughly from October to May. During monsoon (June to September), the sea becomes rough, operators pack up, and swimming is unsafe. Do not enter the water during monsoon months.
Best Time to Visit Kashid Beach
October to February — Best season
This is when Kashid is at its finest. Temperatures stay between 20–30°C, the sea is calm, the sand is dry and comfortable to walk on, and all water sports operate every day. December and January see the highest footfall. If you want the water sports without the crowd, visit on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
March to May — Acceptable with caveats
The beach gets hot by mid-morning, with temperatures hitting 35°C by noon. The sea remains calm, all water sports still run, and resort rates drop. Visit early morning (before 9 AM) or late afternoon (after 4 PM) and you will still have a good time. Good option for budget travellers.
June to September — Monsoon, avoid for activities
The Konkan coast gets heavy rainfall and rough seas from June through September. The beach itself looks spectacular — green hills behind, dramatic waves, empty shore — but water sports are unavailable and swimming is dangerous. Suitable only if you are coming specifically for the landscape and do not mind staying out of the water.
How to Reach Kashid Beach from Mumbai
By road — fastest and most flexible
Mumbai to Kashid is 125 km and takes approximately 3 hours with normal traffic. Take the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, exit at Khopoli, then continue on NH66 towards Pen and Alibaug. Follow signs for Murud after Alibaug — Kashid is signposted before Murud on this stretch. Google Maps on "Kashid Beach, Raigad" is accurate.
Weekend traffic can add 45–60 minutes between Khopoli and Pen. Leave before 7 AM to avoid the pinch.
By ferry + road — scenic option from South Mumbai
Take a PNP or M2M ferry from Gateway of India to Mandwa Jetty (55 minutes, ₹185–₹420 per person depending on operator). From Mandwa, hire a cab or take an auto to Alibaug, then a shared cab or private taxi onward to Kashid (30 km, approximately ₹400–₹500 by cab). Ferry timings from Gateway of India start around 6 AM on weekdays and 6:30 AM on weekends, with departures roughly every 1–2 hours. Weekend ferries fill up by Thursday — book online in advance.
By road from Pune
Pune to Kashid is approximately 170 km and takes 4–4.5 hours. Take the Expressway towards Mumbai, exit at Khopoli, then follow the same route as Mumbai via Pen and Alibaug. Alternatively, take the Pune–Bangalore highway and turn at Wai–Mahad for the Konkan route — longer but extremely scenic through the Ghats.
By bus
MSRTC buses run from Mumbai (Borivali, Dadar, CSMT) to Alibaug. From Alibaug bus stand, board a shared cab or rickshaw to Kashid (₹50–₹80 per person in a shared vehicle). There is no direct bus to Kashid from Mumbai.
By train
There is no railway station at Kashid. The nearest useful stations are Roha (50 km away) on the Konkan Railway, and Panvel (90 km). From Roha, hire a taxi (approximately ₹600–₹800 to Kashid). Train is not the practical choice for this destination.
How to Reach Kashid Beach from Pune
Drive via NH48 (Mumbai–Bangalore Expressway) to Khopoli, then NH66 to Pen and Alibaug, and continue south to Kashid. Total distance is around 170 km and takes 4 hours on a weekday. Leaving Pune before 6 AM means you reach Kashid by 10 AM with the whole day ahead of you.
Alternatively, take the Tamhini Ghat route (via Mulshi) for a shorter distance through beautiful Western Ghat scenery — this adds around 30–40 minutes but is one of the most scenic drives in Maharashtra. Not recommended during heavy monsoon rain.
What to Do at Kashid Beach
Water sports are the main draw and available October to May at the northern end. See the price table above.
Long beach walks — the 3-km shoreline is wide and flat. Walking the full length takes about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace. The southern end of the beach, away from the shack cluster, is significantly quieter. If you want a stretch to yourself on a weekend, walk 10–15 minutes south of the main activity area.
Sunset watching — Kashid faces west into the Arabian Sea. The sunset here is unobstructed, wide, and often spectacular. Arrive by 5:30 PM and find a spot on the sand. Shack stalls serve coconut water, chai, and corn — good company for the hour.
Beach camping and stargazing — several operators offer overnight camping with bonfires on the beach. This works best in the October–February window when the sky is clear. Book in advance on weekends as spots fill up.
Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary — 12 km from Kashid, this 7,000-hectare sanctuary protects coastal Western Ghat forest and is one of the few places near Mumbai where leopards, deer, and diverse bird species can be spotted. Entry by permission — worth arranging if you are staying overnight in Kashid.
Murud Janjira Fort — The Natural Add-On (20 km from Kashid)
Most visitors who come to Kashid for a day also stop at Murud Janjira Fort, which is 20 km south. This sea fort stands on an island in the Arabian Sea and was never conquered — not by the Marathas, not by the Portuguese, and not by the British. Boat rides from Rajapuri Jetty take about 20 minutes each way and operate between 9 AM and 4:30 PM. Boat fare is ₹50–₹100 per person. Entry to the fort itself is free.
A practical one-day plan: arrive at Kashid by 9 AM, do water sports in the morning, have lunch at a beach shack, then drive to Murud (30 minutes), take the fort boat at 2 PM, explore the fort for 1.5 hours, and head back to Mumbai by 5 PM.
For a full guide on the fort, see our Murud Janjira Fort guide.

Where to Stay Near Kashid Beach
Accommodation ranges from beach-shack homestays at ₹800–₹1,500 per night to mid-range resorts at ₹2,500–₹5,000, and a handful of luxury beach-facing properties above ₹7,000. Most properties are within 2 km of the beach.
Key booking notes: resort rates in December–January are at their annual peak. Weekends throughout the season command a 30–50% premium over weekday rates. Book at least a week ahead for weekends in November, December, and January.
Use Booking.com or Agoda for live rates and free cancellation options — both have the widest Kashid inventory.
Kashid Beach Entry Fee and Timings
The beach has no entry fee. It is open 24 hours. Parking near the beach costs approximately ₹50–₹100 for cars. Water sports operators work from roughly 9 AM to 6 PM daily in season.
There are no formal facilities such as lockers or changing rooms managed by any authority. Some shacks and resorts nearby offer informal changing facilities.
Practical Tips Before You Go
Arrive before 9 AM on weekends. The beach fills up between 10 AM and 1 PM and empties again after 5 PM. Arriving early gives you calm water, cool sand, and first pick of water sports operators at better prices.
Take cash. UPI works at most shacks and larger resorts, but several water sports operators and smaller stalls are cash-only. Keep ₹1,000–₹2,000 in small notes.
Wear footwear on the sand in summer. The pale sand reflects sunlight and gets extremely hot between 11 AM and 3 PM — walking barefoot across it mid-afternoon is uncomfortable.
Do not swim during monsoon. The sea looks dramatic in June–September but currents are unpredictable and there are no lifeguards on duty.
Bargain on water sports. There is no price board. Starting low and walking away once is almost always enough to get a fair rate.
